The Craftsmanship Retreat in Telford
This project highlights the transformation of an outdoor space into a dedicated, high-performance wood workshop. By selecting our 20×10 ft Ascot composite garden room, the client successfully created a precision-focused environment that blends workshop durability with modern architectural aesthetics.
Located in Telford, this project demonstrates how the right structure can provide a clean, secure, and inspiring sanctuary for professional-grade hobbyist woodworking.

1. The Brief
Creating a Clean, Secure, and Inspiring Workspace for Woodworking
The client required a bespoke workshop space to accommodate woodworking machinery, a workbench, and raw material storage. The primary objective was to move away from the limitations of a standard shed, seeking instead a climate-controlled, well-lit, and secure environment that could protect sensitive power tools and timber from dampness. The brief also emphasised the need for a wide, accessible entrance to move materials in and out easily, alongside a clean, contemporary exterior that would look professional in a residential garden setting.

2. The Building
A Sturdy, Maintenance-Free Structure Designed for the Artisan
We installed a 20×10 ft Ascot composite garden room, chosen for its linear design which is perfectly suited to workshop bench layouts. The exterior features premium charcoal composite cladding, offering a sleek, modern finish that is both impact-resistant and completely maintenance-free.
To maximise light and accessibility, we fitted black bi-folding doors that open the entire front facade to the garden, paired with a sleek long horizontal window positioned across the front to provide consistent, glare-free natural light across the primary workspace.

Take a Tour of the Finished Building
Explore how we optimised this 200-square-foot footprint into a master woodworker’s dream by taking the video tour. The footage showcases the seamless transition from the garden to the workshop floor through the bi-fold doors, the strategic lighting design provided by the horizontal window, and how the internal space is organized to maintain a productive workflow.
5. Project Gallery
Bringing the Vision to Life
Our project gallery captures this Telford workshop from every angle. It illustrates the striking contrast of the charcoal composite cladding against the outdoor greenery, as well as the interior organization. The gallery highlights how the wide opening created by the bi-fold doors integrates the workshop into the garden, turning a traditionally “messy” workspace into a clean, sophisticated, and highly functional asset for the property.
6. The Result
A Professional-Grade Sanctuary That Elevates the Craft
The final product is a refined, efficient, and exceptionally sturdy workshop that has elevated the client’s woodworking capabilities. By creating a dedicated, weather-tight space, the client has eliminated the setup and breakdown time associated with traditional shed working, allowing them to focus entirely on their craft.
The Ascot garden room has become a seamless extension of their home, proving that a workshop can be just as aesthetically pleasing as it is structurally capable.
