Caring for Your Garden Building
Keep your space looking great and performing at its best with a few simple maintenance tips.
At Noah Garden Rooms, we build with durability in mind—but like any timber structure, your garden building will benefit from a little care over time. Here’s how to keep it in top condition for years to come.
Tanalised Timber Protection
All our buildings are constructed using tanalised timber, which has been pressure-treated with a preservative called Tanalith E. This treatment helps protect against rot, fungus, and insects, significantly extending the life of your building.
You may notice a slight green tint on some timbers—this is a natural result of the treatment process and fades with exposure over time. The treatment is fixed into the wood and is safe for both people and the environment.

Waterproofing Advice
While tanalising helps protect the wood, it does not make the building fully waterproof. We include features such as roofing felt, silicon beading, and fascias to minimise water ingress, but for full protection, we strongly recommend applying an oil-based waterproofing treatment—especially if your building includes electricals or valuable items.
General Maintenance Tips
Expect Natural Changes: As a natural material, timber may develop splits, cracks, or slight warping. These are cosmetic and don’t affect structural integrity.
- Use Wood Filler: If small gaps appear due to movement, wood filler can be used to maintain a neat appearance.
- Adjust Doors as Needed: Doors may expand or contract with the seasons—simple adjustments can help them stay aligned and functional.
- Monitor the Roof: Felt roofs can ripple with thermal movement, which is normal. For longer-term durability, consider upgrading to an EPDM rubber roof.
Ventilation Matters
- Keep Airflow Moving: Ensure eaves remain open or install vents to reduce moisture buildup.
- Air It Out: Open doors and windows regularly to prevent condensation and discourage mould growth.

Taking a few small steps throughout the year can help your garden building stay strong, dry, and beautiful—ready for whatever you use it for.
